  • Yield: Serves 8

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces pizza dough
  • 2 Italian chicken sausage links
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1/3 cup Spicy Arrabiatta Pomodoro Fresco
  • 3/4 cup part-skim shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg white

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pizza dough according to package instructions and let it rest for about 1 hour.
  2. In a medium pot over medium heat, cook the chicken sausage until browned (about 3 minutes), then set aside.
  3. Add olive oil and chopped onion to the pot; cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Stir in sliced red bell pepper and Spicy Arrabiatta Pomodoro Fresco; cover and simmer for 15 minutes until tender.
  4. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) and prepare a nonstick sheet pan.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle (approximately 16 x 10 inches).
  6. Place cooled filling on one side of the dough, leaving a border, then layer with cooked sausage and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Brush edges with beaten egg white, fold over, pinch to seal tightly, then place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  8. Cut slits in the top of the stromboli, brush with egg white, and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Bake at 500°F (260°C) for 10 minutes, then reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake an additional 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow cooling before slicing into eight pieces.
